I'm 18 years old and I had braces when I was 13-14. Straight after getting my braces off, I started wearing plates for my top and bottom teeth and have been doing so ever since (but only wearing them at night now). So, if I were to have underbite correction jaw surgery within the next couple of years, would I have to get back onto braces and would I have to wear braces after the surgery as well?

Yes, you would need to wear braces again both before and after surgery because orthodontic treatment before the surgery differs from the one you got earlier (your surgeon and orthodontist have to realign them in such order so that they would be brought into perfect contact after surgery).
